Audio from the 2008 conference on Anthropology and Global Counterinsurgency

Posted By Marc on May 19, 2009

The University of Chicago has posted the audio of presentations at their 2008 conference on Anthropology and Global Counterinsurgency (hat tip to Savage Minds).  I hope that any recordings (audio, video, whatever) from this years CASCA conference will be available sooner.  It is hard to have an open, public discussion about issues when large amounts of the material are not available to the public either because they are hidden under a security blanket or its academic equivalent (i.e. “if you didn’t attend the conference, we don’t care”).

  1. I have my first report up. The participants did not agree to be recorded in any form. I will be posting my paper online, but the other participants prefer to do otherwise with their papers. The “open discussion” session was not recorded, and I think the participants might have felt constrained if it had been. The discussion that will come after that will remain private, but not any formal resolutions we might make.

Yes, ideally I would have preferred for the panel with papers to be recorded, or to have the papers online.

    Hi Max,

Glad to hear that your paper is going up. I’m chairing a session next week at the CPSA at Carleton that is dealing with some of the same issues. I’m not sure if it will be recorded or not (we’re still waiting to hear back from CPAC).
